U.S. Navy sources and receivers for studying acoustic propagation and climate change in the ocean.

چکیده
Sounds from a U.S. Navy SSQ-110A source are received at high signal-to-noise ratios at ocean-basin scales at two Sound Surveillance Systems in the Pacific. The sounds have sufficient pulse resolution to study climatic variations of temperature. The acoustic data can be understood using ray and parabolic approximations to the wave equation. Modeled internal waves decrease pulse resolution from 0.01 to 0.1 s, consistent with observations. Comments Copyright ASA. Acoustic propagation analysis in the front of saline water mass in the Gulf of Aden
Background and Objectives: Influence of water mass on sound propagation in the Gulf of Aden underwater acoustics used for communication, navigation and identification of objects by both humans and marine mammals and for investigating the detrimental effects of anthropogenic activities (e.g. pile driving, seismic survey and ships) on marine animals. The Gulf of Aden presents a unique ecosystem t...
متن کاملThe Acoustic Thermometry of Ocean Climate (ATOC) Project: Towards depth-averaged temperature maps of the North Pacific Ocean
The ATOC Project has aquired trans-Pacific acoustic data from two acoustic sources: one located on Pioneer Seamount off the coast of California, the other located north of Kauai, Hawaii. Transmissions from these sources are detected by U.S. Navy SOSUS arrays located throughout the North Pacific. The time series of acoustic travel times from the Pioneer Seamount and Kauai transmissions are about...
متن کاملEvaluation of underwater acoustic propagation model (Ray theory) in a river using Fluvial Acoustic Tomography System
Underwater acoustics is widely used in many applications, such as oceanography, marine biology, hydrography, fishery, etc. Different models are introduced to simulate the underwater acoustic propagation in the oceans and the seas. In this study, the Ray Theory model is used to simulate the acoustic wave propagation in a shallow-freshwater river (Gono River) located in western part of Japan. The...
متن کاملEvaluating the performance of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) in simulating temperature variable in Ahwaz and Abadan stations
Climate changes caused by global warming has presented challenges to human society. Studying the Changes of climate variables in the future decades by using output data’s of Atmosphere-Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCM) is a way of perusing climate fluctuation in a region. In this study, the focus is on the AOGCM proceeds in simulating of variable temperature in Ahwaz and Abadan stations. ...
متن کاملEffects of Sound on the Marine Environment: Rapid Assessment
The main objective is to develop an acoustic simulation package that can duplicate signals received in the ocean from Navy SONAR systems. This involves including: extensive 3-D environmental data into state-of-the-art acoustic propagation models, information about source and receiver (marine mammal) motion and signal waveforms from commonly used navy SONAR sources. The acoustic models are modif...
